What is a Good Project?
What elements should a good project have?
A good project must,
- satisfy a real need in the community. [ this is the most important criteria]
- be a good match between satisfying a real need of the community and the skills of the participating RC students.
- be a good match between satisfying a real need of the community and the resources available to the participating RC students.
- be cost effective- the students must find resources and must find or create funding.
- be ethical.
- be environmentally sensitive.
A good project should be sustainable.
A good project will also provide RC students with opportunities for growth.
What Type of Projects Do We Have?
Projects related to animals (A): In such projects participants volunteer to work at animal shelters and for NGOs which are animal rights advocators. (ex: being a volunteer for DEKAMER, or with BUPAWS-Boğaziçi University Animal Sanctuary CIP project going to the shelter every Sunday morning to prepare food for dogs and walk and clean them)
Projects that work as a Club (CL): Such projects are open only to members of the club which facilitates social responsibility projects (ex: Debate Club members teaching debate techniques to younger students from different schools and helping them to have a Debate Club in their schools)
Projects related to Ecology (ECO): In such projects students work physically in the field learning & implementing ecologically-friendly, sustainable ways. (ex: harvesting lavender in Lisina, Burdur)
Projects related to Education (ED): In such projects participants support primary and middle school students with their homework or academic difficulties. (ex: cooperating with Arnavutköy Derneği and tutoring the students in Arnavutköy with their exams and homework)
Projects related to mind and strategy games (MG: Mind Games): The main focus of these projects is to improve the participants’ analytical thinking & problem solving skills with various mind & strategy games. (ex: for a week to teach some strategical board games to primary/middle school students in a school and organize a tournament)
Projects with an alternative education program (RKANEP): Such projects are implemented by engaging primary or secondary school students in activities such as drama, arts, music, sports, technology to inspire them to find their interests and talents. (ex: organizing and running a summer camp in a town out of Istanbul for primary school students for a week)
Projects related to Science (SC): The aim in such projects is to introduce daily science to younger students with games, robotics, makers, coding and some experiments. (ex: to invite a group of young students to RC every week and to work around a STEM program)
Projects related to improving School Facilities (SF): In these projects students work on developing or improving school facilities and using those facilities for a project such as painting the school, libraries (including reading sessions with the students), labs, etc.
