The Çay Guy Engineering Challenge is an opportunity for students to put their thinking skills to work, on the spot. Generally, students arrive with no knowledge of the challenge. No computers, no calculators, no internet access, no cell phones - just their ideas.
The latest challenges have been to build a toothpick bridge and an overhanging blocks challenge. The overhanging blocks challenge was to design a system of blocks that would hang over the edge of a table the furthest, yet have the lowest height.
The bridge challenge was to build a toothpick bridge that could hold the most weight. The bridge had to span 40 cm and allow a straight plastic "Hot Wheels" track to lie horizontally across it for a toy car to pass freely, uninterrupted, across the bridge.
